CHILDRENS AND TEEN ORTHODONTICS
At Toowong Orthodontics we really enjoy treating our younger patients. We make it relaxing for both the patient and parent and we provide a happy and fun environment too.
The way for you to get to know us and feel comfortable with us being your treating orthodontist is at the initial consultation where we always provide an extra long appointment. You get plenty of time to get to know and trust us before committing to any treatment. That’s important.
We’ll not only address our discussion and explanation to the parent but most importantly we’ll involve your child or teenager. We encourage them to ask as many any questions they have. We encourage them to understand what we are talking about, understand the dental problems they may have and be fully informed about what their treatment is going to be. Then once everyone is happy, only then will we go and arrange further times for treatment appointments.
Types of Treatment
Most orthodontists around the world recommend an orthodontic check-up at 8-10 years of age and we at Toowong orthodontics are no different. This is because early detection and treatment of children can prevent lengthy and possibly expensive orthodontic problems in the future. The early detection of problems with the normal eruption pattern or the timing of permanent teeth of eruption can quite often prevent the unnecessary extraction of teeth. The early detection and correction of mal-forming jaw shape can often prevent major problems later on.
Here are some of our treatment options.
These are becoming very popular with teenagers. Since they cost a little more to manufacture than the metal braces, a great combination is to get the ceramic braces for the upper teeth and to leave the metal braces on the lower teeth
Limited earlier age treatment that can save a lot of complex issues and cost later on. This treatment option is reserved for our younger patients, generally up to around 12 years of age.
Metal braces have come a long way over the years and some kids and teens now even consider them a fashion statement. Braces use constant but gentle pressure, which over time, moves your teeth.
