Why choose Toowong Orthodontics

We offer the benefits of being at only the one practice location.

We have chosen to concentrate our efforts at the one practice location in the convenient Brisbane inner city suburb of Toowong.

This is important for patients as it means that we have all our latest high quality equipment available at all times at the location that you attend. It means that all your records and charts are available at the one location for when we need to access them for your treatment.

It also means that you can always see the Orthodontist of your choice in the one place. This is an important consideration when some treatments can take up to 18 months or more.

Most orthodontic practices have multiple suburbs that they visit, sometimes only once or twice a fortnight.

Therefore if you have a breakage or emergency they will generally ask you to travel to another suburb where the Orthodontist is working on that particular day.

Orthosafe Orthodontic Mouthguard

The Orthosafe mouthguard is fabricated from a special thermoplastic, biocompatible polymer.
It is ideal for protecting all teeth in both arches and also the temporomandibular joint and is used during orthodontic treatment.
The Orthosafe mouthguard can is custom fitted after being immersed in hot water. The initial fitting is performed by the treating orthodontist, however subsequent reheating and refitting can be done at home.
As teeth are moving throughout orthodontic treatment, there will come a point where the mouthguard doesn’t fit as well as it did initially. This indicates a need to immerse the mouthguard in hot (but not boiling water) and reform it over and around the braces and teeth just like the orthodontist did initially.

Remolding Instructions:

Place hot, but not boiling water into a bowl. Immerse the mouthguard for about 1 minute. The water must be quite hot but not hot enough to make the mouthguard burn or scald your lips or gums when you place it in your mouth. Be careful.
Fit the mouthguard over the braces, close your lips together and then using your fingers on the outside of your lips and cheeks, and push the softened mouthguard in around the brackets. At the same time, suck back with your lips closed, to suck out any air and water and bite up into the mouthguard. Hold this sucking and outside finger pressure until the mouthguard cools. You may need to repeat this process once or twice more.
Remove the mouthguard and run it under cold water to fully set the new position of the mouthguard.

Cleaning Instructions:

Clean your mouthguard using a toothbrush and liquid soap. If you wish, you may use a denture cleaning tablet in cold water to freshen it.
